Rodarte Spring 2012.

Looking at the roster of girls in the front row of the Mulleavy sister's line Rodarte, one could not help but feel old. Saoirse Ronan, the two Fanning sisters, Taylor Swift, Rooney Mara and Tavi Gevinson (all still young enough to be considered dependents) lined the runway and rightfully so considering the feel of Rodarte this season. Sleeping Beauty was the first reference point mentioned followed by Vincent Van Gogh, whose greatest masterpieces were transformed into prints that were pixellated and restored on a crop of dresses. The silhouettes, which were purely pre-teen, reminded me of the flirty pleated dresses I obsessed over as a high schooler. Add to that the platform sandals, along with hair that would look more appropriate on a twelve year old and the image was a wide-eyed girl, but as always with Rodarte there was a sense of intrigue and mystery like these girls had a bad streak. One thing that will be interesting to see come spring-time is if anyone over the age of consent will be brave enough to wear one of these teenage-dream confections. I personally am lusting after that bursting Starry Night dress. Who says fashion isn't art? File as in love all over again.
