Hawaii Hot Flash.

In an ode to the sunshine today, I am mentally sending everyone off on a vacation to the place I'd most like to be right now...that's right, the beach. Any beach would do with this heat, but there is one in particular that I've been dying to visit ever since I moved to the Bay Area. To the lucky West coasters who call Hawaii their go-to vacation spot, I envy you. Growing up in Texas, Hawaii was completely out of the question; instead my family spent vacations in and around Mexico rather than the far island in the Pacific. But now that it's only a five hour plane ride away, I'm thinking I'm going to need a little getaway. Check out the full itinerary after the jump as well as the perfect Luau outfit for any beach-goer. File as beat the heat.

Not intimidating at all...Haiku Stairs (Stairway to Heaven)
Valley of Haiku near Kaneohe on the island Oahu.

Waikiki Edition Front Desk. Hang ten.

  • Where to Stay: Waikiki Edition in Honolulu
  • What to do: Surf to your heart's desire, catch up on your Vitamin D intake, hike around one of the nature reserves, snorkel or scuba dive through the crystal clear water, partake in a luau before dinner and just relax
  • Where to eat: When you get sick of eating stellar sushi at Nobu (if that's even possible) stop by Hank's Haute Dogs on any Saturday for a Duck-and-foie gras sausage dog with duck-fat fries. It doesn't get any better than that.
  • What to Wear: Leave the hula skirts to the professionals. Try this modern luau look instead...
